Doesn’t it seem like almost every day, someone on social media is bragging about how many books they’ve read, are reading, or plan to read?
Impressive?
Maybe.
Of course, Bruce Lee nailed it—he was a master of MASTERY. ☝🏼
Mastery is depth—perpetual refinement through intentional practice.
Mastery is DOING—10,000 refinements of ONE kick.
It’s not about collecting a variety of kicks or reading 10,000 books. It’s about putting one book into practice.
Hence, one of my favorite Zen koans/proverbs these days:
If you’re not putting ideas into practice, you’re just collecting dung.
DUNG.
Recently, a high-level entrepreneur emailed his list: “You NEVER arrive—there’s always another level.”
While that sounds about right—and maybe even a bit edgy—to me, it feels dichotomous and, worse, discouraging.
Telling everyone they NEVER ARRIVE—that there’s always another level, another mountain to climb—holds truth.
But here’s my two cents:
You, my friend, are always arriving—when you’re on the PATH, moving toward your goals and ideals.
You always arrive AND you never fully arrive.
It’s BOTH.
Each intentional action is an arrival in itself, even as you recognize there’s always another level ahead.
Celebrate today’s intentional action—the habit you’re cultivating—that keeps you on the PATH.
What’s the one kick you’ll practice 10,000 times this year?
Keep on trackin’ ✅

Impressive?
Maybe.
Here’s the real question: What’s one lesson—just ONE—from a single book that they’ve implemented?
Have they installed or applied one big idea?
Of course, Bruce Lee nailed it—he was a master of MASTERY. ☝🏼
