“Your state is a state of mind. Change your state, and you can change your life.” ~ Tony Robbins
“Your state of mind is often a default disposition. It’s a habit that can be modified with intention and practice.”
Beyond the Trigger Lies the Story
Tony Robbins captures it perfectly: a red light flashing in your rearview mirror can instantly alter your physical state. But there's more to the STORY.
The jolt of fear isn't just about the red light itself. It's tied to a story stored in our minds—a memory of past experiences with red flashing lights.
When a red light appears, it triggers these stored stories, influencing our emotions and behavior.
Tony is right: the red light changes our state. But crucially, the fear isn't about the red light; it's about the story and meaning we've attached to it.
If seeing a red light resulted in receiving a million dollars, how would you feel the next time you saw one?
Just a friendly reminder: Next time you are triggered, take a moment to uncover the stored stories that result in unwanted emotions.
*If you don’t understand the ‘rodent’ reference, it’s related to the famed “Habit Loop” and “Cue, Routine, and Reward” (C.R.R.), which unfortunately overemphasizes a very limited theory on the science of habit development because it’s based solely upon the study of rodents. Humans (YOU) possess choice, intention, and reflection; rodents do not. Thus, P.A.R.R. (Plan, Act, Record, and Reassess) was introduced and originally published in The Habit Factor® (2010). ☝️ 🙌🏽 🤙 🙏
